What makes the XMG U702 'Ultra'?
Posted by on 11 July 2014 01:37 PM

XMG U702 This is the only notebook in our assortment which relies on desktop processors (rather than mobile processors). While all other laptops in our range run on the Intel mobile platform (recognizable by the characteristic "M" in the processor name), in the XMG U702 a desktop chipset (Intel X79 Express) with a desktop CPU is installed.

Desktop processors are designed for much more powerful cooling systems and achieve higher clock rates than their mobile counterparts. In addition, these processors have a larger surface area available, providing them with significantly more L2 cache and can ultimately bring more CPU cores: in the desktop segment, there are already processors with 6 or even 8 physical cores, while today's mobile processors are still limited to a maximum of 4 cores. This means that you can get significantly more CPU power in multi-threading situations in the XMG U702 than comparable notebooks.

Additional Features:
The XMG U702 is equipped with three fully-fledged disk slots (2x SATA-III, 1x SATA-II), thus can accommodate up to 3TB of data and also supports RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 5. The XMG U702 can the operate the memory in quad channel, while all other notebooks only allow dual channel. This allows the XMG U702 a memory bandwidth of up to 35.6 GB/s, while other high-end notebooks (with 4x DDR3 1600Mhz in Dual Channel) only up to the 20.3 GB/s reach (each with full configuration). In the XMG U702 has a FireWire controller from Texas Instruments (TI) installed, which is particularly suitable for demanding real-time applications (eg. professional audio equipment).
